The tragedy happened when a free lunch, or a bhandara, hosted by Kripaluji Maharaj was taking place. The gate of Kripalu Maharaj's ashram collapsed during distribution of food.
About 10,000 people gathered at the ashram on the occasion of the "shradh" of the wife of Kripalu Maharaj.
